ISP Technologies has once again made a significant advancement in adaptive noise reduction technology with their latest innovation: the Decimator X. This new development has been recognized with a US patent (US Patent 11,641,183), and other foreign patents are pending.
Traditional noise reduction systems, like noise gates and downward expanders, usually have a fixed release time. Some systems allow users to adjust the release time, but this creates a tradeoff. Fast staccato notes need a quick release to avoid audible noise, known as "breathing," which happens after each note as the expander releases. However, long sustained notes, typical in jazz or blues, need a slower release. A fast release with sustained notes results in an unpleasant modulation sound as the notes decay.
The Decimator X Technology solves these problems with a new approach to adaptive dynamics. Building on previous patents, this technology further enhances the adaptive release time, eliminating modulation with slow-decaying notes and offering great transparency.
The heart of the Decimator X is the Integration Release Window. This innovation allows for a quick response to staccato notes while eliminating choppy modulation with slow-decaying notes. The Integration Release Window holds a slow release until the note's decay exceeds a certain decibel threshold. By setting this threshold higher than the ripple of the fastest release response, the release only tracks the negative peaks of the decaying audio envelope.
This Integration Release Window adjusts dynamically as the note decays. As the signal decreases, the release window adapts, ensuring the release time matches the signal's characteristics. This adaptive behavior removes any unwanted modulation, providing the smoothest and most transparent release response possible. The result is a noise reduction system that is highly responsive and musical, allowing every note to decay naturally without unwanted noise.
This technology is backed by US Patent 11,641,183, which covers the unique aspects of the Integration Release Window. This patent secures ISP Technologies' innovation and sets a new standard in the noise reduction industry. Pending foreign patents highlight the global significance of this breakthrough.
The diagram below shows how the Adaptive Release works with the Integration Release Window, demonstrating the smooth transition and elimination of unwanted noise.

With the Decimator X, ISP Technologies continues to improve noise reduction technology, offering musicians a tool that adapts to their playing style, whether playing fast staccato notes or long, sustained ones. This innovation ensures that every note is clear and precise, free from unwanted noise and modulation.

Oakland Church in Rochester, MI has installed a High Definition Line Array System (HDL™) with accompanying XMAX™ subs. ISP Technologies, LLC a leader in Pro Audio products with over 38 patents in audio, was chosen by Sam Ridgell (Creative Pastor) to outfit OCC’s sanctuary with the latest in innovative sound technology. After visiting Bridgewood Church, which has two campuses outfitted with ISP, Sam made the decision to go with ISP for Oakland Church as well. “After hearing the clarity of the system, along with amazing subs, the choice was easy,” he commented.

The 1800 seat sanctuary features a stage large enough for a full band setup along with many vocalists and has a projector screen and speakers flanking the stage’s sides to envelop the entire sanctuary in sound. With the detail to the mid-range in all ISP cabinets, the vocal clarity ensures both the singing and spoken Word are heard clearly.

Two hangs per side of 5 ISP Technologies High Definition Line Array 3112s (HDL3112) along with 2 XMAX218 High Output subs were installed to create a system of 20,000 watts True RMS (40,000 watts peak) making the system amazing for both regular services and potent enough for concerts. Each HDL3112 has 1200 watts True RMS (2400 watts peak) and the High Output XMAX218 have 4000 watts True RMS (8000 peak). Using proprietary DAA™ (Dynamic Adaptive Amplifier technology) amplifiers, ISP provides Class A/B analog amps for a high fidelity, warm sounding cabinet, as opposed to a digital class B amp other manufacturers use. To add to the magic of the ISP sound, all cabinets are made from Baltic birch in the ISP factory in Michigan. Using only the highest quality amps, wood and components, ISP systems ensure a high-quality sound and even distribution throughout any venue.

MIAMI GARDENS, FL — Antioch Missionary Baptist Church has built a new 2,500-seat Dwelling Place sanctuary, conceived to meet the needs of a growing congregation as they face the challenges of the pandemic. Currently led by Pastor Arthur Jackson III, the Antioch Missionary Baptist church in Miami Gardens was established in 1957 and has been expanding its reach ever since, with a 20-fold explosion in membership since its inception. Rising to meet the challenge of finding an audio system right for the sanctuary’s 5,500 square foot-space was ISP Technologies, a leader in loudspeaker technology and manufacturer of pro audio systems with 38 patents under its belt.

           OVERCOMING OBSTACLES

For Antioch, impediments like the unpredictability of the pandemic and the temperamental Florida weather were barriers to maintaining a consistent schedule for construction and services. The necessity of remote viewing options for congregants meant that delivering Antioch’s message of worship through quality systems was of the utmost importance. “Building during the Covid-19 pandemic was extremely difficult – tariff charges, product increases, product availability and not being able to get supplies in a timely fashion made this a stressful process,” says Kimbrick Jordan, Antioch’s sound engineer. “However, while we were waiting for the new facility to open, we relied on online streaming which we’d started back in March 2020 when Covid-19 forced us to move online. Through our ministry via Zoom and live streaming, we’ve been able to reach people locally as well as abroad.” In addition to the new sound system, new lighting and video systems were also installed. The new systems in the sanctuary were designed to provide clear sight and sound for congregants attending in person and at home.

Jordan worked with Calvin Seymour to design the audio, lighting, and video systems, relying on ISP Technologies to provide the audio products. “I was introduced to ISP Technologies by Scott Pederson from Remote Production Group around 2015 and had the opportunity to meet Buck in Vegas in 2016,” says Jordan. “After that, I went to visit him for three days in Michigan and listened to every box they make. All their boxes are powered and the amplifiers are better than anything I’ve heard of before. Buck helped design our new system, but Seymour complains sometimes because when I really turn everything up, it rocks the cameras!”

          THE SYSTEM

Jordan chose a flown FOH system comprised of 24 ISP Technologies HDL3312 high-definition line array modules augmented by six ground-stacked and two flown XMAX218 dual 18-inch subwoofers. A wedge monitoring system of six VM110 floor monitors, four HDM112s, four HDM115 stereo pairs, four ProWedge 212s and six OVP-1s ensures that performers’ musical talents will be amplified and steal the show. The front and under-balcony fills include eight HDL2208 cabinets. The cabinets are housed in Baltic Birch, with all of the gear being made in Michigan.

The ISP equipment is tailored for large spaces with cost efficiency in mind, but doesn’t compromise on quality. When detailing ISP’s patented Dynamic Adaptive Amplifier (DAA) technology, CEO Buck Waller highlights the equipment’s sound design and energy use. “We don’t integrate Class-D topologies into our designs, as they exude a brittle, shrill tone compared to our much warmer Class-A/B amplifier,” explains Waller. “We get almost the same heat, but we also pull less current than Class-D. This makes them much more efficient and cost-effective for the electricity bill.”

The considerable size of the sanctuary also made vocal clarity a top priority. Waller says that the ISP equipment is particularly designed to achieve a vocal quality that cuts through the noise. “We also pay particular attention to the midrange, so the vocals can always be heard clearly, which is imperative for the church market,” he continues. “It is no good if the music is loud and then the pastor speaks, and you can’t understand him.”

With the Dwelling Place sanctuary now completed, congregants both at home and in person can worship with high-quality sound, video and lighting systems that do justice to the message and the artistic mediums complementing each service. Despite the challenges Antioch experienced as they labored to build the sanctuary, Jordan commends the work done by ISP Technologies to meet their needs at every juncture throughout the process. “From a buyer’s perspective, Buck and the ISP family went above and beyond exceptional customer service,” Jordan finishes. “Everyone went to such extreme measures to make sure everything went according to my vision. They paid close attention to every detail regardless how large or small – if it mattered to me, it mattered to them. From an end user perspective, after over 30 years in the production field, I’ve now had the opportunity to mix on and listen to what I consider to be the best sound system in the industry and I promise, you won’t find a better built or a better sounding versatile box in its class.”

Founded in 1701, the historic Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit was named a minor basilica by Pope Francis in the spring of 2020. Operating continuously since 1701, the Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit is the second oldest continuously operating Catholic parish in the U.S. Monsignor Charles Kosanke, rector of the basilica, said, “In celebrating this honor, we embrace our added responsibility as a basilica to increase our efforts to serve as a welcoming place of prayer and spiritual renewal for all who visit.”

To help facilitate the church’s new stature as a basilica, an updated sound system was commissioned. Historic facilities have many factors that need to be considered including intelligibility, ascetics, and usability. Teaming up for this unique project were ISP Technologies, LLC and BC Sound & Stage A/V integrators.

Having provided audio video system designs, installations and live sound to various Michigan venues for over 20 years, AdamKane, lead integrator for BC Sound, says, "The historic Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit presented many complex demands that were fairly typical of this style of architecture. High-fidelity and intelligibility at all seats was a top concern. The system also had to combine the ability to be versatile enough to accommodate the wide array of service types while being easy enough for operators of various skill levels to use.”

With over 38 patents in audio, ISP Technologies designs and manufacturers pro audio systems for various venues. With the capability to make custom cabinets, the challenge was to design a speaker cabinet and brackets that would blend in with historic features while providing the acoustic clarity and intelligibility ISP is known for.

Utilizing their proprietary High Definition Distributed System™, which runs both audio and power down one line of CAT6 wire, ISP fashioned 28 custom size and color loudspeakers, including the grills and brackets, to match the columns throughout the Sanctuary. BC Sound installed the newly designed HDDS 2108 system with speakers that are 220 watts RMS (440 watts peak) with clarity and midrange so both the spoken word and song are clear. The system is controlled with two ISP HDDS MC1000 zone controller, giving the user control over the entire system.

BC Sound time-aligned the speakers with each row tuned and delayed to match the sound from the speakers in front of them. The speakers were also aimed to maximize coverage of the seating area and minimize the amount of acoustic energy hitting the walls. Control of the system is by a custom-designed user interface based on the QSC Q-Sys ecosystem with 8" touchscreens provided for system control and adjustment. An iPAD connected via a dedicated WiFi network allows for system control anywhere within the room.

“The QSYS processing and control system offered the versatility and intuitive user-interface required by the staff. The ease-of-use is further reinforced with the exceptional output quality of the ISP HDDS speaker system in that the inputs typically need very little "massaging" to get great results, even in an acoustically challenging space. We believe the ISP speakers took a lot of the work out of what could have been a very difficult room. Their willingness to tailor mounting options, coverage patterns, and finishes to fit the specific needs of the client allowed us to provide a true custom solution for our clients instead of being forced into accepting a "cookie-cutter" approach for this one-of-a-kind facility," says Kane.

Upon using the system for the first time, Music Director Joseph Moss said, “The audio quality of the new speakers is night and day compared to our previous equipment. It is much easier to hear what people are saying both in speech and music, and everything is crystal clear. Many parishioners and staff have commented on the clarity of the sound both in the room and on our livestream, which has been critical in reaching our community due to the pandemic.”

Further reinforcing the user-friendly control system Moss continues, “This system makes it exceptionally easy and intuitive to manage audio for the building. Having the ability to control the system wirelessly makes it much easier to adjust based on the sound in the space.”

Skyloft Albany has taken over the 16,000 square foot performance venue that previously housed Rascals Steakhouse. Owned by the team behind other venues including Skyloft in Laguna Beach, California, the new venture differentiates from Rascals in that the new owners will actually utilize the space as a live sound venue with national touring acts. With the capacity to hold several hundred people, the new owners want to capitalize on The Music Club area which includes a massive stage, main dining area, and three bars. The entertainment venue features state-of-the-art technology with a 20-foot LED Wall Screen, impressive concert lighting and a top of the line ISP Technologies sound system.

The 20,000 Watt RMS Front of House System, consisting of 4 XMAX 218™ Subwoofers, two stereo hangs of the HDL 3112™ High Definitions 3 Way Line Arrays with HDL 118™ High Definition Subwoofers at the top of the hang and a full stage complement of floor wedges, will more than support any national touring act with headroom to spare. To give the rest of the venue and bar areas an actual high fidelity sound experience, the new owners also kept intact the ISP Technologies patented High Definition Distributed Systems™ (HDDS™) gear. The key difference in the HDDS™ gear is sound quality. The HDDS gear runs both audio and power down a single run of CAT6 and each speaker is powered with its own amplifier which actually gives the speakers fidelity, unlike the 70Volt systems typically used. Running the system are the HDDS Master Controls, that can handle up to 6 zones with up to 10 speakers on each run. The system was designed to be installed in stereo, so any seat in the venue will have the ultimate listening experience. A combination of the HDDS SB112 subwoofers, SM800, SM 652, CS651 and HDDS Pendent Speakers were installed throughout the restaurant.

To get the club back up and running, Klondike Sound from Greenfield, MA, was called in to get the system back to full capacity and do an overall tune up of the gear. With over 40 years of experience in both live sound and installation, Skyloft was in good hands. Jason Raboin, one of the principals with Klondike Sound, also purchased four new ISP XMAX 218 subwoofers to replace those that had disappeared before the new owners took possession of the club. Between the expertise of Klondike, and the Made in the USA sound system from ISP Technologies, Skyloft will be a great destination for concerts to rival any venue.

One of Michigan’s leading providers of Audio Visual and Pro Sound Design and Installation, BC Sound & Stage, is also one of ISP Technologies, LLC preferred providers. Located in Battle Creek, MI, BC Sound services Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Not only do they design and install pro audio systems for Houses of Worship, Corporate, Education, Government and Restaurant Venues, but BC Sound also does live sound production for multiple festivals in the tri-state area.

Using a wide variety of ISP Technologies Pro Audio gear, BC Sound provides stages, systems and the FOH gear necessary to make festivals such as the National Blueberry Festival – South Haven MI, Grand Haven Hispanic Heritage Festival – Grand Haven MI, Battle Creek Field of Flight Airshow and Balloon Festival – Battle Creek MI, St. Julian Wine and Harvest Festival – Paw Paw MI, and Leilapalooza Music Festival (multiple stages) – Battle Creek MI really come alive.

Utilizing 12 boxes of the ISP Technologies High Definition Line Array HDL3112 boxes, 6 XMAX112 Folded Horn Subs, 2 XMAX 218 High Output subwoofers (4000 watts true RMS, 8000 watts peak) and several ProWedge 212’s, BC Sound can provide sound for several stages.

“We have enjoyed using ISP gear for many years, both in permanent installations and live event production. The systems are easy to deploy and sound quality is top-notch. We get frequent compliments from guest engineers and event attendees. It’s also very efficient, which lends itself as the perfect system for venues with less than ideal power. And perhaps most importantly, our experiences with their customer service and tech support have been unparalleled.”

The ISP Technologies gear is made in the USA and has patented amplifier technology that is not Class D which makes for much better sonic quality and a warmer sound. With the attention to the mid-range, the ISP gear has clarity and fidelity that other gear does not. The new amp technology also provides a “greener” product in that it measurably pulls less current off the line, while having more efficiency of power, uses less electricity, and provide a cost savings. The gear also can be measured at the listed specs and the specs are posted in both True RMS™ and peak watts. For more information contact BC Sound & Stage or ISP Technologies.

Leading audiovisual integrator, SoundCom designs, engineers, and installs high quality systems for many types of uses including communication, education, entertainment, and houses of worship. Consistently in SCN’s top 50 integrators in the nation, SoundCom has chosen ISP Technologies, LLC for school district projects.

SoundCom has installed both ISP Technologies patented and patent pending High Definition Distributed Systems (HDDS) and patented Pro Audio gear for extensive school projects in over 25 school districts in Michigan. Rather than relying on archaic 70V distributed systems with technology based on 1920’s patents, ISP has introduced a new distributed system concept: both power and audio are run down the same CAT6 ether cable and each speaker in the system is actually outfitted with its own power amplifier. This patented pending innovation actually provides a distributed system that has both fidelity and clarity. The HDDS utilizes a master control module to control 6 different zones with multiple runs per zone available. The versatility of the HDDS system has allowed SoundCom to design projects for both inside and outside projects in various school systems throughout Michigan. From gymnasiums, pool areas, sports fields, and cafetoriums, the HDDS systems can be used in any environment as it can be weatherized and flown wherever needed.

SoundCom has also designed school systems with ISP Technologies patented Pro Audio gear. It has been utilized for performance spaces as well as outdoors for football, soccer, and baseball fields. ISP has also made custom designed pro audio cabinets specifically for SoundCom to use in stadium seating situations to better cover the seating and field areas. All ISP Pro Audio gear can be weatherized and customized for any specific venue. Working with SoundCom and using their specifications has enabled SoundCom to provide their customers with exactly what they need and not an “off the shelf” solution that any company could provide.

Lead Account Executive, Joe Samborski, has been bidding ISP Technologies into his school projects for years for many reasons. Between the ability to customize products, the great customer service by ISP, and the product being made in the USA, Joe adds, “ISP is unmatched with its High Fidelity sounding speakers and price point for quality audio equipment. It allows me to offer the latest in patented audio technology and the customers love it!”

The ISP Technologies gear is made in the USA and the proprietary DAA patented amplifier technology is not Class D which makes for much better sonic quality and warmer sound. With the attention to the mid-range, the ISP gear has clarity and fidelity that other gear does not. The new amp technology also provides a “greener” product in that it measurably pulls less current off the line, while having more efficiency of power, uses less electricity, and provide a cost savings.

Five-Star rated restaurant Mahogany Prime has moved into the new South Tulsa, OK shopping area. The upscale steakhouse relocated and upgraded their sound to suit their beautiful dark wood traditional decor and fine dining experience. Wanting to compliment the decor with a sound system comparable to their upscale decor, an ISP Technologies, LLC High Definition Distributed System (HDDS) was installed.

Mahogany PicInstead of the typical 70 volt system that most restaurants install, the patented High Definition Distributed Systems consists of high end, high fidelity speakers that are amplified in each cabinet. This results in a rich, warm sounding system that enhances the ambience of any venue. With ceiling speakers, ceiling subwoofers and wall mounted speakers all controlled with one unit that runs up to 5 zones, the system could not be easier to both install and run.

Installed by Kenrich Electric AV, Mahogany Prime Steakhouse was outfitted with 32 ceiling speakers which included 24 of the higher fidelity CS654’s as well as 3 ceiling subwoofers. To compliment the ceiling speakers, 9 SM652 wall speakers with 4 SB112 subwoofers were also installed. Two MC1000 control units were installed to control the multi zones in the restaurant for seamless coverage. Utilizing 5 unique RM22i remotes, 5 separate dining areas can be used as independent spaces with their own audio source making for a more personal and intimate dining experience.

“Our new Mahogany Prime Steakhouse relocated to a new space with a modern energetic decor featuring dark woods, expansive bar area and four private rooms so we could continue to cater to our guests ever growing needs. We recognized the need to upgrade the sound system to interplay with dining to produce a richer, fuller and distinct music experience for our guests. Mission accomplished!” said Hank Craft, Chief Operating Officer of Hal Smith Restaurants.

With over 38 patents in audio, ISP Technologies continues to develop products that provide excellent high fidelity sound for restaurants, schools, conference rooms, sports facilities, and sports bars.

The ISP Technologies GLATM2606 Line Array Speaker is a new extremely high performance small format 2-way “true” line array cabinet with “gapless” summation of the line array elements. The new GLA2606 provides line array performance at an unheard of price point. Now venues looking for a small format line array can have a true high fidelity, high performance line array system without the associated high price.

All multi-box line array systems suffers from a gap between the individual elements of the line array which can cause response errors due to the spacing between the drivers. In many designs this will cause both frequency and phase errors in the response which means the sound will change based on the seating position in the room. The GLA2606 system delivers all the advantages of a true line array system but with a new level of precision summation between the internal components and with the same mid-range clarity and definition that ISP has become known for.

The GLA2606 provides a 32-degree vertical by 110-degrees horizontal pattern with extremely smooth summation between the internal elements. The GLA2606 is a powered bi-amplified design featuring ISP Technologies patented DAA Dynamic Adaptive Amplifier technology. The new DAA power amplifier delivers efficiency close to that of Class D but with class A/B sonic performance for both the best and warmest sound possible. The GLA2606 has flypoints on top for flying and also includes a bottom cup for stand mounting making this an excellent system for corporate or other portable events.

Long Beach, California businessman Steve Guillen saw a need in the local community for a premium upscale live entertainment venue that could host both local musicians and national acts. Coming from a 20 year background in the service industry, Guillen found a perfect venue for his vision: The Pike Outlets waterfront entertainment district would become the home of his new club, “The Broken Drum.”

To be competitive and attract national acts Guillen knew he would need state-of-the-art audio and visual technology to have the most high end venue on the Coast. Directed to ISP Technologies to check out their gear, Guillen took advantage of their design services for a recommendation. Based on drawings, the suggested system consisted of four HDL 3112 High Definition Line Arrays, two of the new High Output XMAX 118 Subwoofers with two HDM 112 side fills and four VM110 Floor Monitors.

Amplifier technology has been redefined with the latest DAA amplifiers. Each XMAX 118 Subwoofer boasts 2000 watts RMS (cruising speed) and 4000watts Peak (warp speed). All this power is poured into a very efficient, single 18 inch speaker housed in a Baltic Birch cabinet. The 3-way HDL 3112 (Baltic Birch) line array boxes all sport the same DAA amp technology and deliver true high fidelity performance in a small (85lb) line array box.

Club owner Guillen choose RioDeluxe Audio to install the new ISP system. Owner Jamie Rio personally installed the system (with a small crew) and was very impressed with the 15,000 watts of true RMS (30,000 watts peak) power. “I have used and installed ISP gear for years and I was really blown away by the fidelity and power of this relatively small system” said Rio.

Agreeing with Rio, Guillen added, “I am confident The Broken Drum is delivering the best options for the community, surpassing the needs of this industry, and we’re doing it in the heart of the city that I love.” ISP Technologies is proud to be a part of this unique venue that will host a variety of events including promoting local musicians and attracting regional acts.

In 2017, ISP Technologies, LLC designed a custom outdoor wireless system for Downtown Rochester, Michigan. This is an update to answer questions ISP has had from other municipalities and outdoor specialty venues.

The Rochester system is a completely custom design including a custom designed wooden box made with marine grade Baltic birch then sealed with a poly-urea spray on finish inside and out including custom color matching with UV protection coating to avoid any fading from the sunlight. There is no question that a birch cabinet sounds considerably different than a plastic enclosure, far more high performance especially in the mid and low frequencies.

The internal speakers are a very high quality coaxial speaker. This is a very high performance speaker and not what you would typically see in an outdoor speaker from any competitive product and includes a high performance neodymium woofer and compression driver . This speaker is rated at 480 watts program power. The Rochester cabinets have dual 6.5 inch coaxial speakers with one pointed out each side of the cabinet covering both directions down the sidewalk. The cabinets are designed and tuned for the selected drivers used to optimize the bass performance of the cabinet. The entire system is then tuned and precision equalized to deliver excellent fidelity for background music while allowing proper headroom for announcements.

The next critical element of the design is the available power to drive the speakers. In order to achieve performance required for a public address announcement system you need to be able to deliver a minimum sound pressure level of at least 95db at 1 meter. ISP Technologies preference is to have over 100db SPL available to avoid any distortion. The ISP systems have local power amplifiers using our patented DAA Dynamic Adaptive Amplifier technology. With 3 new patents covering this power amplifier technology ISP can deliver any required power at each speaker including a true Bi-Amplified system with a precision tuned crossover. This means considerably better headroom, better clarity and better fidelity with an emphasis on ruler flat response and excellent headroom in the critical midrange. This is extremely critical for intelligible PA announcements with very low distortion. The DAA power amplifier technology allows us to deliver local power with less current draw and at extremely low voltage. Where most distributed sound systems can only deliver between 30 and 60 watts per speaker the ISP systems can deliver upwards of 600 to 800 watts per speaker dynamically allowing us to match the required power of the actual drivers used. In the Rochester system the available power with 32 speakers is over 20,000 watts. This power is only required if the system is used for announcements but covering this kind of area the system does utilize the available power when used for announcements. For any competitive system to deliver this kind of local power would require between 10 to 20 power amplifiers costing upwards of $60,000.00 just to deliver similar power to the ISP custom sound system.

The ISP custom sound systems can be designed with a wireless link with remote power at each pole or based on our HDDS “High Definition Distributed Sound” technology. In both cases the current consumption is only milliwatts with background music and not much more than a couple of amps current draw with high SPL announcements. ISP can also design an outdoor system with a unique RF link if the system requires full wireless audio transmission especially where point to point wiring is not an option.

Contact ISP Technologies directly with any questions regarding a custom designed outdoor distributed audio system.

The newest community development in the revitalization of Pontiac, Michigan comes in the shape of a Community Theatre space. Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre, affectionately known as the “PLAT”, has been renovated and is ready to be used by theatre groups, dance troops, musicians, for corporate meetings, showers, movies or anyone needing a unique venue.

The 1868 historic building has been lovingly restored in a beautiful Art Deco style. The space, while originally a grocery store, has been turned into a theatre space that can be used for both live performances and as an old time movie house, complete with a surround sound system. Local Michigan Pro Audio manufacturer ISP Technologies was tapped to design a FOH system and a High Definition Distributed system to support all necessary audio needs of the space. Two XMAX 115 750 watt RMS subwoofers with HDM 112 600 watt RMS top boxes were used for the main system while the HDDS system for the surround sound consisted of a Master Control and four SM800 cabinets.

Robert Karazim and Karen Jorgenson of K and R Design purchased and renovated the building over the past three years with a desire to expand the community atmosphere of Pontiac. “Both living and working in Pontiac has made us want to give back, and a theatre seemed like a great idea,” Robert said, “and utilizing Michigan companies to make it happen was important to us as well.”

Visionary Jazz/Progressive Rock guitarist, Allan Holdsworth, has endorsed the ISP Technologies Theta Pro DSP™ floor controlled guitar system. As an artist known for sculpting the guitar’s voice into unfathomable textures and colors, Allan realized, after demoing the Theta Pro at a recent gig, just how easily he could shape his own tone.

The ISP Technologies ThetaPro DSP™ is a Floor controlled guitar system with a fully programmable digital Theta preamp, Vintage preamp, plus Studio quality effects processing. While the buzz for many years has been “Modeling”, ISP takes a departure from the modeling processors and hands the guitar player the audio clay. Professional players like Holdsworth, want their own sound and the ThetaPro DSP delivers, allowing the artist to shape their own tone with limitless possibilities. With other great features, like the a 32 bit floating point processor, more usable gain than other processors on the market with no aliasing, and the ability to plug directly into the FOH system and/or record directly, more artists are discovering and using the Theta Pro both live and in the studio. Now with Ping Pong Delay, the Leslie Rotary Speaker Simulator, True Stereo, a Tuner (accurate to a 1/2 cent), the Theta Pro DSP is the ultimate guitar system.

In Allan Holdsworth’s continued quest for the perfect sound, he said, “The Theta Pro sounds simply amazing. Exceptional tone shaping abilities.” To have Holdsworth, an inductee into Guitar Players Magazine’s Hall of Fame, who has also been named as influential in their music by such renowned artists as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Michael Romeo and Greg Howe, choose the Theta Pro DSP was amazing. ISP Technologies is greatly honored to have such an amazing and genre-defying guitarist use the Theta Pro DSP. ISP Technologies’ products are based on 30 plus patents in the audio arena, and are manufactured in the USA.

Long time ISP endorser, Michael Sweet, has signed on to corroborate with the Michael Sweet Signature model Theta Pro DSP. With a prolific career spanning over 30 years, Sweet has had a plethora of musical accomplishments. From forming his first band, Roxx Regime, to founding the heavy metal Christian band Styrper, playing and singing with Boston, and doing his Sweet & Lynch band/project with George Lynch (Dokken), Sweet has filled stadiums, sold more than 10 million albums and gotten Grammy nods.

Continuing to make music both with Stryper and as a solo artist, Sweet needed a guitar system that was versatile enough to play live in all size venues and to use in the studio. Other criteria was ease of use and portability. Having ISP products already, Sweet checked out the patented Theta Pro DSP™. The floor controller contains the programmable digital Theta preamp with built in Studio quality effects processing and is based on a DSP platform using a 32 bit floating point processor and the latest generation of high quality audio converters. Fully programmable with super high gain and zero aliasing, Sweet took the pedal on the last Stryper tour and was amazed at how easily he could dial in his tone.

“I’ve been in search of the ultimate tone my entire life. It started when I was 12 years old with a Sears Silvertone Amp, an Epiphone guitar and an EHX Little Muff. Then I heard the first Boston album and I became obsessed with creating my own tone that would be as memorable and signature as that. I started preamping with a Lab Series L11 head into a Marshall and there it was – The MS/Stryper tone. Fast forward to 2017 and it’s been perfected and wrapped up into the Theta Pro MS Signature! A box that you can carry under your arm or throw in a suitcase and gig anywhere from clubs to arenas without the need for racks, pedals, amps or cabs. I’ve dialed in my sound, the Stryper sound, effortlessly and programmed presets as well. I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be working with ISP. I’ve tried them all – from Line6 to Fractal to Kemper to you name it and the ISP Theta Pro MS is the best sounding, most user friendly all in one unit available. If you’re tired of digital sounding digital, get the Theta Pro MS and sound analog again!”

After the tour, Sweet talked with James “Buck” Waller, CEO of ISP Technologies, about some features he would like to see. This led to the Michael Sweet Signature Model Theta Pro DSP. The Michael Sweet Theta Pro has all the great features of the Theta Pro DSP and also includes new added software with enhanced Michael Sweet EQ, the Leslie Rotary Speaker Simulator, True Stereo, Ping Pong Delay, a Tuner (accurate to a 1/2 cent), and, of course, Michael Sweet Pre Sets. The chassis are in the classic yellow and black Stryper colors and each chassis has Michael Sweet’s signature. ISP Technologies is excited to offer this new limited addition Michael Sweet Signature Theta Pro DSP guitar pedal. ISP Technologies’ products are based on 30 plus patents in the audio arena, and are manufactured in the USA.

Battle Creek, Michigan’s 6,500-seat Kellogg Arena has played host to events from BMX to national acts, such as Kelly Clarkston and homegrown artist Kid Rock, since 1982.

Director of operations at Kellogg Arena, Ben Randels, contacted Kerry Johnson, president/CEO of BC Sound who had supplemented the arena’s system for years with ISP Technologies gear.

ISP became a mainstay of BC Sound in 2002, and had been used for their various live sound concerts, festivals, air shows and installation work. In choosing a new system for Kellogg Arena, Johnson says, “We generally like to use the same brands ourselves for live productions as we use for installation, especially ISP. [They are a] great local company right here in Michigan, Made in the USA.”

BC Sound install manager, Adam Kane, replaced the existing center-hung cluster with 16 High Definition Line 3112 array boxes in 4 hangs, two XMAX 218 flown subwoofers producing, and the newly designed CXi114 coaxial loudspeaker for downfill.

Kane says, “I’m always pleasantly surprised at how little tweaking ISP gear needs beyond the manufacturer DSP presets, and this system was no exception. The coverage was exactly what we needed.” All ISP Technologies cabinets have patented and patent pending amplifier technology and are designed and manufactured in Michigan.”

Randals adds, “The new ISP system installed by BC Sound is an incredible improvement to the building. Returning clients and patrons are shocked by the difference. The coverage, clarity, and bass depth are going to be a huge asset to the building and upcoming events.”

ISP Technologies Pro Audio was recently featured in Systems Contractor News for the installation at Jimmy Johns Field, home of the United Shore Professional Baseball League in Utica, Michigan. ISP teamed up with Southfield, MI-based Bluewater Technologies for the installation.

In specifying the sound system for the 4,000-seat stadium, Bluewater kept things local, choosing Waterford, MI-based ISP Technologies for all of the loudspeakers, which cover the 22 suites, cabana and picnic areas, and the grass berm seating area. “We approached ISP and asked what we could do for a stadium system,” said Randy Hall, systems design engineer at Bluewater Technologies. “We involved the manufacturer and put together a system that sounds really good.”

“ISP worked with Bluewater to custom develop 19 CX Series coax speakers, which were hung along with four XMAX 218 subs to provide 23,000 watts of power to cover the field area with professional level sound. For the suites, concourse, and restaurant, ISP and Bluewater decided to use the manufacturer’s High Definition Distributed System (HDDS) line of loudspeakers, which feature an integrated design for simplicity.

ISP Technologies loudspeakers cover the 22 suites, cabana and picnic areas, and the grass berm seating area. “The [HDDS] cabinets have the amplifiers built directly into the speakers, so there’s no loss of fidelity across the speaker line,” Hall said. “They distribute it over Category 6, and depending on each speaker’s current load, will depend on how many speakers you can connect to that run. We use two speakers per run, and ran a Cat-6 out there and jumpered it over to the second speaker. And we did it in different zones, so all of the delays would match up.” And since all of the HDDS speakers are powered by the same Cat-6 cable that carries the audio signal, installation process was simplified, as well. The audio system is controlled by a Soundcraft Si Expression 2 board, and the digital signal processing is done via a Biamp Tesira SERVER-IO.”

SECU Arena is Towson University’s new 5,200-seat state-of-the-art athletics and entertainment venue in Towson, MD. Although primarily for sports, the multi-purpose venue is also designed to host concerts, meetings, commencement ceremonies and conventions. Key to the success of the new venue was the sound system, which had to provide both high-SPL, full-response reproduction for music events, as well as excellent detail and articulation to maximize intelligibility in the large space.

Frank Rankin, Towson’s production manager for event and conference services technical operations spec’ed the SECU Arena system. The all-ISP Technologies rig consists of 32 High Definition 4210 line arrays, four XMAX212T subwoofers and two High Definition 2208 custom designed line arrays, with the latter functioning as downfills, providing audio directly onto the court.

“It’s only a 5,200 seat venue, but it sounds intimate,” says Rankin. “The 4210 is a dedicated four-way line array box and the intelligibility and midrange is better than anything else I’ve heard — it’s absolutely smooth. I’ve been in a lot of arenas along the East Coast, and the audio quality in most of them has been lacking, to say the least. People today really expect great audio quality and the reaction to our system has been overwhelmingly positive.” Rankin was also impressed by the self-powered system’s low AC draw. “I can run the entire system on two 20-amp circuits. It’s very eco-friendly.”

Supplementing the main system, is a comprehensive distributed sound system (also with ISP components) consisting of 103 HDDS CS650P plenum-rated ceiling speakers, three BRC1’s, three HDDS SB112 subs, 10 HDDS CS651 non-plenum ceiling speakers and three HDDS master controls that can supply independent zones within the system.

The main system design/installation was handled by Tampa-based AVI-SPL, with the distribution system by Baltimore’s Nelson White Systems. Atlanta Rigging Systems hung the arena system and supplied hoist motors and motor control systems.

The event space is a complex of divisible and combinable rooms that will host movie screenings, performing arts events, concerts, and meetings.Gardner-Webb University, a private institution serving 4,300 students in North Carolina, recently completed a $30 million construction project at the heart of its campus. University president Dr. Frank Bonner described the new Tucker Student Center as “the single-most impressive and most transformational building ever built on Gardner-Webb’s campus.” The building’s high-fidelity sound reinforcement system is consonant with that description. Its event space is equipped with a 7.2 surround sound system that is perfect for movie screenings and rider-ready for highprofile bands. Local AV firm A Sound Experience designed and installed the system around a pair of Symetrix SymNet Edge processors networked together and with a Yamaha CL 5 console via the new Dante protocol.

When the new student center project went out to bid, A Sound Experience’s President, Preston Hinson, was quick to act. Founded in 1998 as an audio, video, theatrical lighting, and media consulting firm, A Sound Experience (ASE Service Group) quickly expanded into a full-service design, installation, and integration company encompassing all aspects of production and media technologies. Hinson bid ISP Technologies for both the distributed sound system and the professional sound reinforcement systems.

Of the ISP Technologies patent pending High Definition Distributed System (HDDS), Hinson had this to say, “The HDDS system, featuring the 10-inch driver, that was utilized in a recent 7.2 application, exceeds any THX certified system I have heard. The ability to have a high output speaker that can be deployed with only two pulls of Cat-6 is an amazing labor and overall cost saver. This will revolutionize the way we design the small format pro audio system. The new HDDS system from ISP is the new contractor go-to cabinet. When comparing cost and quality of the HDDS system to a traditional 70v distribution system, in both categories, the ISP HDDS system wins hands down for building distributed audio.

The heart of the audio system resides in the event space, which is a complex of divisible and combinable rooms that will host movie screenings, performing arts events, concerts, and meetings. However, its tendrils extend throughout the student center to provide high-quality background music in the building’s restaurants, store, recreation area, and common areas. “The new system at the Tucker Student Center is tremendously powerful and flexible, and just a few years ago a comparable system would have cost two or three times as much,” Hinson said. “The SymNet Edge possesses a tremendous amount of processing power, and the use of the Dante network reduced the labor costs substantially while simultaneously improving system performance.”

Inputs to the system include six wireless microphones, Dante ports located in each of the divisible rooms, output from a 7.2 surround sound processor, several media inputs, and stage boxes. The SymNet Edge frame possesses a modular I/O topology, and one frame, dubbed “Dante In,” is fully loaded with 16 analog inputs. Its considerable processing power is devoted to conditioning each input, which is then available anywhere in the system via the Dante network. “I’ve worked with virtually all of the older digital audio distribution protocols, and they were always tedious and somewhat problematic,” Hinson observed. “ In contrast, I simply plugged in Dante and it worked. The simplicity and robustness of it blew my mind. The Yamaha CL 5 integrated seamlessly. This was the first job I have completed in which all of the patching is done via Cat-5.”
