University Chooses ISP Technologies
Frank Rankin, Production Manager for Event and Conference Services Technical Operations department at Towson University, recently contacted ISP Technologies. Having heard of ISP Technologies, Rankin called asking if ISP Technologies could do a demonstration of a system that could be used for several applications within the campus community. With more than 18,000 students, Towson University is the second-largest public university in Maryland and hosts more that 200 performances, conferences, films and lectures each year in their Towson Center Arena, University Union and other campus venues.
Frank was interested in a system that could be portable and used in all the venues around campus, as well as beefy enough to be used in the arena. After hearing the ISP gear, as well as some major competitors, Frank decided to go with ISP Technologies. Frank had this to say about his choice, "Having been an audio engineer for over 36 years I've witnessed first hand the evolution of the sound reinforcement industry and the manufactures that supply it, so I know what I like, and I spent over a year researching and auditioning products from every major manufacturer. When it came down to making that final purchase ISP won hands down!” More than 100,000 people will attend events at Towson University this year and ISP Technologies is excited to be a part of that experience.
When the time came to make a decision about what cabinets the campus would go with, Frank chose the ISP Technologies High Definition 212 and 112 monitor speakers. These cabinets are high output 3-way active speakers with fidelity and resolution that will put many high-class monitors to shame. Their outstanding midrange clarity and transient response, much better than 2-way systems, result in top-class vocal performance. The driver (1.75 inches) used actually has higher sensitivity above 10 KHz than nearly all 3-inch diaphragm drivers, so that at 15 KHz, less power is required compared to the 3-inch driver! These cabinets also have a lower crossover frequency that again results in better clarity and transient performance from the 12-inch cone than would result with a two- way box. Standard with the HDM 112 system is a 3-channel, 700-Watt rms (900-watts with the 212) amplifier/electronic crossover that is specifically designed for use with the speaker. This amplifier features ISP’s patent pending DCAT high-current amplification technology. A cooling fan automatically switches on when needed. Towson also went with the added flyware option so they could suspend these cabinets when needed.
Along with the HDM series, ISP also provided subwoofers to go with them. Six XMAX 115’s were chosen to provide some seriously needed low end response and power was not a problem as these cabinets are juiced at 1000-watts each! Unlike other companies that promote “theoretical” levels of output at the expense of flatness, deep bass and transient response, our specs are accurate. The XMAX 115 has a true 130 dB peak output with a true, deep response down to 33 Hz (-10 dB) for more deep bass than competing subs, the XMAX sounds exceptional. ISP cabinets are constructed of ¾” birch plywood, has a built-in pole mount, and a steel grille for strength and durability.
To facilitate easy transport, we have included built-in wheels and steel bar handles. The patented D-CAT (Dynamic Current Amplifier Technology) power amplifier delivers extremely high current, which delivers much greater transient response and higher impact sonic punch. The D-CAT amplifier also offers greater reliability than other amplifiers through the use of a Monolithic driver that reduce discreet parts and eliminate any need for bias trims that can drift over time. This all translates into better reliability and performance than other power amplifiers. With the clarity, fidelity and mid-range capabilities of this system, Towson University will have no problem using this system for any application, including: live performances, lectures, music and any other events. Frank seconded this when he said,
“The fidelity of the HDM212 and HDM112 was better than anything I auditioned, and you don't have to EQ the life out of them to make them sound good (I have yet had to run them any way but flat). The XMAX115 Subs have all the power I will ever need and they give me exactly what I want, tight punch bass!!!!!
All of my technical staff is pleased with its ease of set up and its ability to adapt to any event. Even the students on my staff with little audio experience can set this rig up and have great results!
Buck Waller and his entire staff went above and beyond to make this purchase happen, and I will continue to expand my inventory with ISP products for a long time to come."
