D-CAT PATENT ISSUES
ISP Technologies is proud to announce the first patent
covering the D-CAT™ power amp technology has issued. The
D-CAT™ (Dynamic Current Amplifier Technology), an innovative
approach invented by James “Buck” Waller and Derek Bowers,
is an amazing departure from “traditional” power amp
technology.
In a typical, or traditional, power
amp, there are many components that can fail. The first
potential for trouble is in the factory when someone has to
calibrate a trim pot that will set the bias for the output
section. The second trouble spot can come into play when the
power amp is used over time and the bias trim adjustment can
drift or become open circuit. Both scenarios can be
detrimental and in the latter case cause the destruction of
the output devices.
The beauty of the D-CAT technology is in its simplicity.
Using state of the art monolithic circuitry, a PCB is
assembled with no trim measurements and nothing to drift or
change bias down the road. The D-CAT also provides extremely
high output current, easily driving a 1/2 ohm to 1 ohm load.
Most power amps currently on the market have a hard time
driving 2 ohms and seldom offer 1 ohm stability. The D-CAT
is capable of delivering 4 to 5 times as much current to the
load as other typical power amps.
Because there is absolutely no bias in the output section of
the D-CAT, no bias trim adjustment is required, leading to
increased reliability, stability, and no bias in the output
section eliminates any possibility of thermal runaway. The
higher reliability and efficiency leads to a huge reduction
in cost per watt. Another added benefit of the D-CATs’
higher current output is a major increase in transient
response, which greatly increases the sonic punch at low end
and makes for a better overall sound experience.
The D-CAT amps are used exclusively in ISP Technologies,
Inc. products, including the Professional Audio gear, the
Vector Cabinets, the Theta Head and the Vector SL Guitar
Subwoofer. For more information on D-CAT, or any ISP
