Theta Endorser Greg Noll

Greg E Noll, one in a growing list of players who endorse ISP Technologies gear, proudly uses the 300 watt Theta Head. Greg E Noll is probably best known for his fretwork with 80’s metal rockers, Villain. Their 1986 release, Only Time Will Tell (featuring the late Carl Albert on lead vocals) continues to be re-released in one form or another to this day.

Villain disbanded in the late 80’s, but reformed with the original guitar team intact (Noll and Leon B Smith) to record their second CD, 1996’s Chequered Past. “That album didn’t get as much notice as Only Time Will Tell did, I think because Carl wasn’t singing on it, but I feel there was some really strong material on it and I’m still very proud of the music on there”, Greg says now.

Villain may now be somewhat a thing of the past, but Noll is still very busy with several projects that keep him occupied. As guitarist/ vocalist for hard rockers Crazy Ivan, he recorded and released the 2000 album Astronautical and performs regularly with them around his home state of California. He is also working on songs for a new Crazy Ivan CD to be recorded sometime next year.

“The thing I’m most stoked about”, Said Noll, “is my upcoming solo release. It’s called Slow Motion Hurricane and we’re tracking it now. I’ve had these songs bouncing around in my head, and I’ve been working on them for years and I just needed to put them somewhere, you know? They needed a home. I’ve been working on preproduction for the last year and I’m finally recording the album. It feels so great to finally be approaching my goal”.

Having someplace for his songs to “live” is admittedly a good thing, but according to Noll, the best thing about Slow Motion Hurricane is that it’s bringing him back to a place where he feels most at home – the world of heavy metal. “I’ve missed playing metal so much! I mean, I’ve been playing hard rock all along, but it’s so killer to be playing big, heavy, original music again. It’s something I’ve always intended to return to, and I’m finally doing it now”. To get that awesome metal sound, Greg began looking around for an amp that could handle what he wanted to play. “At the 2006 NAMM music trade show, I was introduced to I.S.P. Technologies, and most importantly, the 300 watt Theta guitar amplifier. After playing through this crunch machine for fifteen minutes or so, I was completely in love! Buck Waller has created a sweet, beautiful monster. The Theta's tone is big, thick, sweet, and crunchy - just the way I like it. Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to having this killer amp (as well as the Vector 400 watt powered subs) as part of my tone arsenal. Buck and Shelley are the best, and I.S.P. rules!”

Fans that want to stay informed on the progress of the album can do so by logging onto www.myspace.com/crunchmachine where Greg will be posting updates regularly on what’s up with the recording process. He hopes that Slow Motion Hurricane will see a release date before the end of 2006.
